NRST Competitive Program

Welcome to the 2020/2021 Nanaimo Riptides Swim Team season. As the highly anticipated re-opening of NAC quickly approaches, we are very excited to get back into our home pool. Like previous years our goal remains the same: to be recognized as a premier competitive swim club supporting swimmers of all ages and abilities.

We will be opening our competitive program pre-registration for returning members on Wednesday, September 2nd @ 11am and then to new families on Friday, September 4th @ 11am. All swimmers should receive their group assessments from their coach by the end of today (Tuesday, September 1st)

Group training schedules can be found through the following link:

Olympic Way Program

A quick update letting you know that we are continuing to work with the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre management in regards to confirming available pool rental space for group scheduling along with instituting a return to action plan in conjunction with the safety standards set out by our Provincial Health Officer, WorkSafe BC and Swimming Canada. Your swimmers safety is our first priority and we want to ensure that everything is in place in order for our Learn to Swim program to run as safely and efficiently as possible. That being said, we will not be opening our Olympic Way program in September. Our hope is to have everything in place to open as much of the Olympic Way program as possible to start in October. Once everything has been confirmed, we will update our website and email the info to our members.

***As we all have been adjusting and adapting to the COVID-19 rules and guidelines, NRST has had to make a number of changes to our workout structure and times. Our staff have been working with the City of Nanaimo Aquatics department to secure as much pool space as possible and will be updating the club when any new space becomes available.

Notable changes:

  • SPORT COHORTS: Establishing cohorts will limit the number of people that each individual will come into contact with, reducing the risk of transmission and ensuring quicker contact tracing by health authorities if an outbreak occurs.
  • Enter facility only through a pre-described access point and exit through the designated exit point.
    • All groups will be emailed directly with detailed instructions
  • Swimmers should show up to their respective workouts 10-15minutes before, and remain no longer than 15 minutes after. This will ease the number of families and swimmers at any one time in the area surrounding the facility. Door will be closed 5 mins before workouts so that coaches can organize swimmers before the start of the workouts. No late entries will be permitted
  • All swimmers must fill in the COVID-19 screening log and submit to a temperature check before entering the facility. Parents/guardians will be required to sign in swimmers under the age of 11.
  • Swimmers will be unable to use change room facilities both upon entrance and on exiting the facility.  Please come prepared to get into the pool and have adequate towels to travel home with
  • All swimmers will have to use their own training equipment
  • All Swimmers must wear goggles
  • Completion of the Swimming Canada Assumption of Risk Form is part of this season’s registration requirements. This will be emailed to you after membership application is received.

*Please be reminded that all outstanding balances must be paid before applying for membership.
